Later this month I’ll be flying out to beautiful island of Jamaica to kick start my 2012 wedding season, can I get a woop, woop!!!!!  So as I begin to prepare for my trip I was reminded of my last Caribbean wedding photographed on the tiny island of St. Martin.  It was a welcome break away from the UK and right in the midst of my 2011 wedding season.  After arriving on the island via Antigua and having settled into my beach side apartment I spent nine glorious days exploring and indulging in the unusual mix of Caribbean, French and Dutch cultures with the aid of my little rented Hyundai car.  I met Jessica and Andrew for the first time a few days into my trip and had a wonderful time getting to know many of their family and friends whilst sailing to a small uninhabited island for some snorkeling and lunch.  Their wedding followed a couple of days later filled with so much joy and emotion and took place at the stunning Mes Amis Villa on the french side of the island overlooking the sea.  Here are just a few spreads from their wedding album…

A have to mention a special thank you to Julie and Danny who recommended my services to Jessica and Andrew.  Their company Minty Slippers are one of the UK’s finest wedding filmmakers which you will see watching their short video of the wedding day -here-

RISE + SHINE 2012

January 10, 2012

Around this time last year my brother and I swapped the UK’s coldest winter on record for the far more inviting climate of Uganda in east Africa.  We arrived in this beautiful land to photograph the wedding of my friend Roy and his queen, Maggie.  With their anniversary fast approaching and a recent bout of man-flu (the worst kind!), I’ve had plenty of time to reminisce about the amazing things I experienced during my stay there.  Breathtaking scenery, rich culture, captivating wildlife (in their natural habitat!), wild nightlife (my unnatural habitat!), stylish hotels, crazy motorcycle taxis and white water rafting for the very first time.  Great weather was matched only by the warmth of the people we met who showed us so much love, kindness, and generosity that it was a real struggle to leave.

A memory I revisit often given the chance, is a short five minute journey across the width of the River Nile.  It was dawn and we were leaving behind Paraa Lodge perched on a hillside deep in the Murchison Falls National Park.  The calm of the waters were disturbed only by the gentle waves created from our boat transporting a mixture of locals, tourists and our vehicles.  The clatter from the boats diesel engine interplaying with echos of the surrounding animal kingdom was an unfamiliar mix and the distinctive sound of hippos from our afternoon crossing two days earlier had disappeared.  My attention was soon captured by the emerging sun on the African horizon.  It’s rise brought with it not just a promise of a new day but a call to action.  All the ideas, aspirations and possibilities that had been scattered in my mind suddenly started moving in sync and fell into place.  Evolving into something far greater than before, my vision for the future was now much clearer.  Uganda and a sunrise had altered my sails and I was heading in a new direction.

I want to thank my friends and family for their continued love and support throughout 2011.  To my wonderful clients; I feel extremely blessed to have been part of one of the most significant moments in your lives and wish you the very best as you continue on your journeys on the road to a lifetime of marriage.  One way or the other you’ve all helped me along in that new direction.

2012 will see me pushing further along my journey with renewed energy gifted to me by a recent trip to Miami and the Bahamas with a inspiring community of friends and also the buzz of a fresh new year.  So lying here disarmed with man-flu, I raise a cup of my special healing tea to the sunrises in your lives.  May you all shine your very brightest in 2012!

Happy New Year!

Happy Anniversary Roy & Maggie!

It doesn’t seem that long ago we were all aboard the Scott Robert workshop in Seville Spain where Sou-Wah and Stephen first met!  Returning there last year for their engagement session, we spent an amazing couple of days shooting around the beautiful city resulting in some of my favourite ever images and a huge blog post that you can revisit -click here-.  Fast forward to June 17th of this year, I took up the much anticipated position as a guest at their stunning wedding in Lodi California where our friends Tauran (aka Master ‘T’) and Lynn-Kai captured what will always be one of my proudest moments, witnessing two dear friends marrying their soul mates.  A week later and back on UK shores preparations were underway for their wedding celebrations here and once again a different role beckoned for this time I was to be a groomsman for the day.  Or was I!!!!! (cue dramatic music please, lol!)  Well as is sometimes the case in life, a little misfortune and plans have to change but everything happens for a reason and often for the greater good!  Surrounded with Sou-Wah and Stephen’s family and friends on a day bursting with joy and happiness I was instead back in my element as photographer capturing the final chapter in their journey to be married and wouldn’t have had it any other way!  Well actually I did get to play groomsman for just a little while (see below).  A truly happy ending then!

And we end with where it all began.  Two loving and devoted parents whose examples will ensure Stephen and Sou-Wah’s marriage lasts a lifetime.

Assisting in Uganda

August 30, 2011

A few days prior to my friend Roy’s wedding in Uganda I joined him briefly on the location shoot of a wedding he was shooting at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.  I literally met the couple for the first time a few minutes prior to capturing them here!

An Italian Thing!

August 9, 2011

I spent a few days last summer in the stunning Italian region of Umbria as a guest of my dear friends Max Brunelli and his beautiful wife Cristiana.  We met up with fellow photographer Shane Rodimel from the US visiting Italy with his wife Melinda and Max organised for us a wedding shoot at the magical Eremo Delle Grazie in the idyllic town of Spoleto.  Our models had never met before but by creating an environment that put them at ease in combination with what can only be described as an ‘Italian thing’ they created all the emotion and interaction we needed!
